It all started with a Catholic priest from the US.
“Did you know you can get paid for helping others get their books cheaper?” he asked me one day. I had no such idea, but I followed his advice and signed up.
That’s how I joined my first affiliate program ever: Amazon’s.
Sadly, the Danes weren’t ready for this.
But in 2000, something happened that changed my view of affiliate marketing. I got a new email program that I really loved. I paid to become a reseller. (They didn’t have an affiliate program.)
Since then, I’ve done affiliate marketing on the side.
When you want to promote a product, you need to request permission.
As a new affiliate, it can be almost impossible to get approved. There is a clever little way that will make it more likely.
You buy the product first.
Sure, it will cost you money up front.
But if you make 50% commissions, it will only take you two sales to have made your money back.
Yet, there’s an even easier way.
Who says you need to start with something new?
You can pick something you already own. Like the email program, I told you about at the beginning of this post. This will mean no extra expenses for you.
Only sheer profit potential.
I had a blog back then.
I shared links on my blog. But if you don’t have one yet, you can use other places. I still do.
In every personal email I write, I have a link to a product.
Think of it this way:
If you write good, helpful content anywhere, check if you can share a link. It’s possible on Medium, Quora, Hubpages, Substack, 𝕏 and other places.
Just make sure you don’t break any rules.
